DOTr: Drivers may present eDLs instead of physical license, settle fines online

According to the Department of Transportation (DOTr), law enforcers must now accept electronic driver’s licenses (eDLs) as valid identification. Motorists can also pay traffic fines online, making compliance with traffic rules more convenient.

Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said the policy is part of the DOTr Department Order No. 2023-015. Under the order, Land Transportation Office (LTO) officers and deputized agents are required to recognize eDLs as equivalent to physical driver’s licenses.

Drivers can access their eDL through the Land Transportation Management System (LTMS) portal or the eGovPH Super App.

Motorists who renew or apply for licenses via the LTMS automatically get a digital version. This means they can present their eDL to traffic enforcers even without the physical card.

Lopez added that this reduces the need to confiscate licenses during violations, since the eDL serves as proof of authorization.

The DOTr also reminded drivers that fines for traffic violations can now be paid online. Payments are based on the Temporary Operator’s Permit (TOP) issued during a violation.

With eDLs and online payments now in place, motorists have more options to comply with regulations while avoiding unnecessary delays.
