Starting March 23, PUVs and cargo trucks will get toll rebates on major Luzon expressways. The program only covers NLEX, SLEX, and STAR Tollway, giving drivers some relief as fuel prices continue to rise.
The rebates apply to jeepneys (Class 1), buses (Class 2), and freight trucks (Class 3). Discounts range from ₱18 for jeepneys to ₱72 for large trucks per trip. The program will run for two months, with the possibility of an extension depending on its impact.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said the rebates are part of government efforts to ease costs for commuters and businesses
Fuel prices have gone up due to the Middle East oil crisis, prompting the government to direct agencies to find ways to help. Toll operators San Miguel Corp. and Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. have agreed to support the initiative.
