DICT and Meta sign agreement for safer internet in the Philippines

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has signed an agreement with Meta to make the internet safer in the Philippines. The deal covers child protection, online scams, and harmful deepfakes.

With this partnership, Meta will help DICT detect and remove child exploitation content faster. It also ensures quicker reporting of online sexual abuse and exploitation cases to authorities. Protecting children online is one of the main goals of the agreement.

The deal also addresses scams such as fake investments, phishing, and other forms of digital fraud. By improving detection and prevention, the initiative aims to stop scammers from targeting Filipinos.

Another focus is deepfakes, or AI‑generated videos and images that can spread false information or damage reputations. The agreement includes measures to prevent the misuse of these tools against public officials, business leaders, and ordinary citizens.

DICT and Meta’s partnership is a big step toward building a safer, more secure online space for Filipinos.
