The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) will push for stronger Big Tech accountability at the ASEAN level. Secretary Henry Aguda said the Philippines will raise the issue in October meetings to protect citizens from harmful online content and scams.
Aguda explained that ASEAN cooperation is needed to set clear rules and faster responses against digital threats. He pointed to the region’s 700 million population as collective leverage when dealing with global platforms.
Meta promised closer work with Philippine authorities to address harmful content, child exploitation, AI deepfakes, and cybercrime. Roblox also agreed to improve child safety with age checks and parental controls.
Aguda said Big Tech’s access to ASEAN markets must come with accountability and stronger protection for citizens. The issue will be raised in a ministerial roundtable on AI and a senior officials’ meeting on new media.
