Meta said it will work with the Philippine government to integrate the National ID system for user verification, without giving the social media giant access to personal information stored in the government database. The move aims to improve online safety while keeping privacy intact.
The plan uses an API that checks if an ID number matches records from the Philippine Statistics Authority. Meta will only get a “match” or “no match” result. This means sensitive data stays with the government. The setup is designed to stop fake accounts, reduce fraud, and protect children from harmful content.
A Technical Working Group (TWG) will start in mid‑September. It will include Meta and agencies like DICT, NPC, NTC, NBI, PNP, DepEd, and DSWD. The group will discuss technical details and privacy safeguards.
Officials said child safety is the main goal. By linking National ID checks with Meta’s platforms, the government wants stronger accountability without exposing private information.

Next, the TWG will finalize how the system will work. Roblox is also set to integrate the National ID for child safety, alongside Meta’s rollout in the Philippines. Meta’s apps include Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Threads, and WhatsApp.
