Gemini now lets users import preferences and chat history from other AI apps

Google is making it easier for people to switch to Gemini. The company has added new import tools that allow users to bring over memories, preferences, and chat history from other AI platforms.

The update is rolling out globally. You can find it through the Gemini app’s settings. Users can now generate a summary of their stored context in their current AI app and paste it directly into Gemini. This covers personal details such as interests, background, and preferences, ensuring continuity without starting from scratch.

For conversations, Gemini supports importing chat history via a ZIP file upload. This means past discussions from other AI assistants can be carried forward, allowing Gemini to continue threads seamlessly. Google is also renaming “past chats” to “memory,” which makes sense in relation to storing context.

The integration goes deeper with Google’s Personal Intelligence features. With permission, Gemini can draw insights from Gmail, Photos, Search history, and imported chats to deliver more personalized responses.
