X has announced XChat, a standalone messaging app set to launch on April 17, 2026. The app will be available on the iPhone and iPad through the App Store.

XChat is designed as a private communication tool. It supports encrypted text messaging, audio and video calls, group chats, and file sharing. Users can also edit or delete sent messages.
X says the app will run without ads or tracking for a cleaner messaging experience. The interface is minimal, highlighting active conversations in a simple layout.
However, the app has its limitations. XChat requires an X account to sign in and is not launching on Android at release. Privacy concerns are also an issue, as the app links to personal data such as location, contacts, and search history to user profiles.
