Meta’s Threads has overtaken X in daily mobile users, a milestone that shows how quickly the platform is growing.
According to data from Similarweb (as of January 7, 2026), Threads has 141.5 million daily active users on iOS and Android, compared to X’s 125 million. The shift happened between late October and early November 2025, driven by steady growth rather than sudden spikes.
In the US, X still leads in mobile usage, but its numbers are falling fast. Daily active mobile users have dropped by half compared to last year, giving Threads a chance to catch up.
On the web, though, X remains far ahead. As of January 13, 2026, X had 145.4 million daily visitors on desktop and web, while Threads only managed 8.5 million.
Taken together, Threads has around 150 million daily users across mobile and web. X continues to operate at a larger scale with more than 270 million daily users.
These numbers suggest Threads is gaining ground, but it has a long way to go before it can match X’s total audience.

The competition between the two platforms is far from settled, but Threads has proven it can challenge X where mobile matters most.
