TikTok tests AI tool for creators to spot deepfakes

TikTok is testing an AI-powered likeness detection tool that helps creators spot unauthorized deepfakes using their image. The feature is currently available to a limited group of creators in the US.

Creators must first verify their identity through Jumio, which requires a real-time selfie scan and ID check. TikTok says it does not keep ID documents and uses facial data only for likeness matching.

Once verified, TikTok scans for AI-generated content that may use the creator’s likeness. Flagged posts are sent to the creator for review, allowing them to report unauthorized accounts or content.

The tool is opt-in, meaning creators can choose whether to enable it. TikTok says the system is designed to give creators more control over how their image is used on the platform.

This comes as platforms face growing pressure to address deepfake misuse. YouTube has already rolled out a similar tool, making it available to all adult users.

TikTok’s test is still limited, but if successful, the company could expand the feature to more regions and creators in the future.
