TikTok to ban gambling ads in the Philippines starting August 22

Limiting exposure to gambling ads helps create a safer online space for Filipino users.

TikTok will stop showing real money gambling ads in the Philippines starting August 22. The move follows a government push for safer online spaces.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said TikTok made the decision voluntarily. According to the agency, gambling ads have become increasingly common on social media. These ads promote online casinos and betting apps, which can easily reach minors and vulnerable groups.

The ban will apply to all paid gambling promotions on TikTok in the country. It’s part of a wider effort to fight online scams, misinformation, and risky content.

Recently, e-wallets GCash and Maya have made changes by removing access to gambling platforms, following a directive from the BSP.

Limiting exposure to gambling ads helps create a safer online space for Filipino users. It reduces the risks linked to online betting, especially for young people and families who could be more vulnerable.
