Samsung is tightening lock screen security with One UI 9. The update adds stricter rules on failed unlock attempts, making Galaxy phones harder to break into.
The new system limits how many times you can try before facing longer lockouts. After five wrong attempts, you wait one minute. Seven attempts lock you out for five minutes. Nine attempts mean 30 minutes, and twelve attempts force a 24-hour wait. On the 13th failed attempt, the phone locks permanently and requires a factory reset.
Even if you use fingerprint or face unlock, you still need to enter your backup PIN, pattern, or password every 72 hours. Samsung also shows clear warnings about how many tries are left. Repeating the same wrong input doesn’t count twice, so accidental double taps won’t speed up lockouts.
These rules apply to Galaxy devices launching with One UI 9, including the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Z Flip 8. Turning on accidental touch protection could help avoid unintentional lockouts.

While it adds some hassle, the stricter lock screen rules give stronger protection for personal data and make brute-force attacks less likely.
