The iPhone 18 Pro Max leaks suggest Apple is preparing a variable-aperture camera upgrade. According to reports, this feature will not be available on the regular iPhone 18 Pro, which marks a clear difference between the two models.
Reports say the Pro Max will have a thicker and heavier body to fit the new camera module. The feature is expected to improve photo quality across different lighting conditions, offering more flexibility for users who shoot in different environments. Apple has done this before, keeping the 5x telephoto zoom exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Aside from the camera, both Pro models are expected to have the same A20 Pro chip built on a 2nm process. The chip promises better performance and efficiency, especially for iOS 27’s Apple Intelligence features. Other shared specs include a 48MP triple camera setup, 12GB RAM, and storage options up to 2TB.
Leaks also mention Apple’s in-house C2 modem, which could replace Qualcomm and bring satellite 5G support. The Pro Max is rumored to weigh around 240g and measure 9mm thick, making it bulkier than the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 18 series in September 2026, alongside the foldable iPhone Ultra. If the leaks hold, the Pro Max will stand out as the only iPhone with a variable-aperture camera, giving buyers a stronger reason to pick the larger (and more expensive) model.
