The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said the Pax Silica project in New Clark City will focus on advanced manufacturing, not AI data centers. The site will build hardware and equipment for AI systems, while data centers will be placed in other areas with stronger power and water supply.
DTI explained that developers must be self-reliant. They need to build their own roads, secure power, and manage water without government support. This rule is meant to keep the project sustainable and avoid using public funds.
Lawmakers raised concerns about the impact on local communities. Large-scale water use could affect residents, so strict monitoring will be needed. The government stressed that developers must balance industrial needs with community resources.
The New Clark City hub is expected to play a key role in the AI supply chain. By focusing on manufacturing, it will support future data centers in other ecozones across the country.
