Global electric vehicle market share rose in Q2 2026, with battery electric vehicles (BEVs) taking 19 percent of all passenger car sales. According to Counterpoint, BEV sales jumped 24 percent year-on-year, showing strong demand across major regions.
China led the charge with 56 percent of global BEV sales. Europe and the US followed, supported by incentives and new model launches. Plug-in hybrids stayed flat, while BEVs made up two-thirds of total EV sales.

Tesla, BYD, and Geely were the top three brands worldwide. BYD stayed on top with about 600,000 BEV sales, though its numbers dropped 8 percent compared to last year. Tesla ranked second with 12 percent share, growing 25 percent year-on-year despite weaker US sales after tax credits expired.
