Bose is acquiring Skullcandy, bringing together two popular audio brands. Even after the deal, the latter will continue to operate as its own brand under Bose.
The company said Skullcandy will still be based in Park City, Utah. It will also keep its own identity and continue serving its existing customers.
For Bose, the acquisition is a long-term investment. The company sees this as a chance to combine its audio expertise with Skullcandy’s appeal to younger and lifestyle-focused consumers.
The deal builds on an existing relationship between the two brands. Some Skullcandy headphones and earbuds already use licensed “Sound by Bose” technology. That partnership helped connect the companies before the acquisition.
Skullcandy’s access to Bose’s technology and engineering know-how could help the brand improve future products. At the same time, the company plans to stay true to what its customers already know and like about the brand.
Bose did not reveal the acquisition’s financial details. The company also did not announce any new products as part of the deal.

For now, nothing changes for Skullcandy users. However, the partnership could lead to better products as Skullcandy gains access to Bose’s audio technology and expertise.
