Viber, the popular free voice and text app for iOS and Android devices is now available on BlackBerry and Windows Phone devices as well. This is certainly good news for BlackBerry and Windows Phone users who have been waiting for the availability of Viber on their devices. There is a caveat, though. The Viber app for BlackBerry and Windows Phone devices is still in Beta stage, but the app is certainly ready for download.
Being a Beta version of the app, Viber for Blackberry and Windows Phone lacks the voice calling functionality for now, but Viber promises to bring voice calling very soon. It may not be long before the calls feature is added to the app. For now, BlackBerry and Windows Phone users should be able to send text and photo messages to other Viber users anywhere in the world. The full version of Viber on iOS and Android devices features HD voice calling and text messaging over 3G, 4G, or Wi-Fi.
Viber is one of the popular choices for free voice and text app apart from WhatsApp and Tango because it is free to download and use and is also ad-free. Viber is also easy to use as it integrates seamlessly with your device’s existing address book and it uses the cell phone number as Viber ID, unlike other apps where you need a separate user ID.
Viber will be a competitor of BBM on BlackBerry devices and Skype on Windows Phone devices. But until the voice calling feature is offered, the app may have a hard time toppling these apps. To download Viber, follow these links:
