For once the competing network operators agree on a thing – providing free SMS to subscribers from areas affected by typhoon Yolanda.  Smart and Globe both announced that they are offering subscribers in Eatern Visayas and Northern Cebu 25 free SMS per day for five days that may be used for local and international text messages.  The areas that can benefit from this free text service include Tacloban City and the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Leyte, northern Cebu and Samar.  The mobile networks that offer free texts are Smart, Sun Cellular, Talk ‘N Text, Globe and TM.

The free SMS service from the networks will help the victims of Yolanda.  Those who are outside the Philippines are in dire need of information regarding the situation of their loved ones in the Yolanda-hit areas so offering free local and international text is truly a generous gesture from the telcos.

The free 25 daily SMS bundles are available from November 13 to November 17 and can be used to send text messages to all networks.  Smart users are not required to register for the free text. Subscribers will be automatically notified each day about the free service.

For Globe and TM subscribers, the free service can be availed by texting BangonPinoy to 8888.
