Smart watches are hot these days but none of those already available in the market has made quite an impact. Smart watches promised so much but fell short when it came to features and actual usability. Or maybe the price proved too high for an accessory that only, at best, delivers notifications and quick controls to a device that is just in a pocket and hence, easy to access.
A company has another idea. Instead of a smart watch, it wants the notifications and control features packed on a ring. This is the idea behind Smarty Ring, a ring that’s meant to be worn on a finger just like any other ring. The difference is, it has a built-in LED screen that displays information from a connected iPhone or Android smartphone.
Among other features, the Smarty Ring can display incoming caller ID, text messages, and updates from social networking apps. The Smarty Ring also features physical control buttons on the side which can be configured to control phone apps including the camera. The Smarty Ring connects via Bluetooth just like smart watches but the manufacturer claims to have a 24 hour battery life.
The only problem I see with the Smarty Ring is the varying sizes of users’ fingers. That could pose a problem to the company but maybe they have plans on how to make every size available at launch. The Smarty Ring is in a crowdfunding stage and was launched on Indiegogo. The target price when it becomes available commercially is $275. The Smarty Ring will be available in April, 2014.
Here is a video showing the features of the Smarty Ring. Hit the source link after the video if you want to know more about the Smarty Ring.
