Helio G90 teased as MediaTek’s first gaming chip

MediaTek’s upcoming Helio G90 aid in the rise of affordable mid-range gaming smartphones.

The popularity of gaming smartphones have risen in 2019, and “built for gaming” has become the buzzword in mobile. With competitors releasing gaming chips, MediaTek teased that it’s coming out with one called the Helio G90.

According to GSM Arena, Helio G90 might come with two 2.2GHz Cortex-A75 cores and six 2.0GHz A55 cores. The GPU will probably be an over-clocked PowerVR GM9446 with promises of up 15% improvement in graphics performance.

Other methods that MediaTek could use is having a gaming mode that temporarily boosts performance during games. At this point, nothing is certain as the teaser didn’t reveal much information.

Although I’m still not sure we need a gaming chip or smartphone, having a midrange option with excellent performance that is more affordable than flagships is always a welcome addition.
