MediaTek unveils Dimensity 9400 flagship SoC built for AI

MediaTek has launched the Dimensity 9400, a flagship mobile SoC optimized for AI, featuring a second-generation All Big Core architecture and advanced GPU and NPU.

The flagship chip comes with MediaTek’s 8th Generation NPU, which provides several industry-first capabilities, including on-device LoRA training and high-quality on-device video generation. It also has MediaTek’s new Dimensity Agentic AI Engine (DAE), designed to help developers create more intelligent and interactive AI applications.

The Dimensity 9400’s All Big Core design consists of an Arm Cortex-X925 core operating at a clock speed of 3.62GHz, along with three Cortex-X4 cores and four Cortex-A720 cores. Compared to its predecessor, this configuration offers a 35% increase in single-core performance and a 28% improvement in multi-core performance.

In terms of graphics, the Dimensity 9400 is paired with the new 12-core Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU, which can deliver up to 40% faster raytracing performance.

It also boasts impressive imaging capabilities, thanks to MediaTek Imagiq 1090. The image signal processor enables HDR video recording throughout the entire zoom range. Other notable features include a refreshed 3GPP Release-17 5G modem, a new 4nm Wi-Fi/Bluetooth combo chip, support for Wi-Fi 7 tri-band MLO, and more.

The first smartphones powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 are expected to be available in the market starting in Q4 of 2024.
