MediaTek unveils M90 5G-Advanced Modem with AI at MWC 2025

MediaTek has introduced its latest 5G-Advanced cellular modem, the M90, at MWC 2025. The M90 modem aligns with 3GPP Release 17 and the upcoming Release 18 specifications, offering downlink speeds of up to 12Gbps and boosting uplink performance by up to 20% with 2T-2T Uplink TX switching.

The modem supports both sub-6GHz (FR1 with up to 6CC-CA) and mmWave (FR2 with up to 10CC-CA) connectivity and features dual 5G SIM dual-active support. MediaTek’s Modem AI (MMAI) technology enhances power efficiency and device performance by identifying data traffic patterns and optimizing connectivity.

MediaTek’s Smart Antenna technology leverages AI to boost data throughput by up to 30% and ensure precise key operating environment identification with 99.5% accuracy.

“The advanced AI and 5G features in our M90 modem make it possible for OEMs to offer differentiated performance with more design flexibility, as well as a highly integrated and optimized total solution for the best possible user experience across devices,” said Mingxi Fan, Senior General Manager of Wireless Technology Group at MediaTek.

The M90 modem also integrates satellite (NTN) connectivity and utilizes MediaTek UltraSave technology, reducing power consumption by up to 18% compared to the previous generation modem.

MediaTek continues to develop its global ecosystem of cellular partners, pushing the limits of cellular connectivity. Key achievements of the MediaTek M90 include:

  • 11.6Gbps download speed in partnership with Keysight
  • 5.5Gbps peak download speeds in 5G FR1 SA 6CC carrier aggregation trials with Verizon and Samsung
  • Near 10Gbps download speed in a live network with Telstra and Ericsson

Engineering samples of the MediaTek M90 will be available in the second half of 2025. For more information, visit the MediaTek website.
