MediaTek unveils Genio 720 and 520 edge-AI IoT platforms

MediaTek has announced the Genio 720 and Genio 520, the latest additions to its edge-AI IoT platform lineup. These cutting-edge platforms are made for smart home, retail, industrial, and commercial IoT devices, offering unmatched performance and functionality.

The Genio 720 and 520 are equipped with MediaTek’s 8th-generation Neural Processing Unit (NPU), delivering up to 10 TOPS (Trillion Operations Per Second). This enables hardware acceleration for transformer and convolutional neural network (CNN) models.

With support for up to 16GB of LPDDR5 memory, these platforms also excel in handling data-intensive large language models (LLMs) like Llama and Gemini, empowering generative AI tasks seamlessly. Developers can efficiently deploy multi-modal AI applications and accelerate product development, thanks to MediaTek’s robust AI ecosystem.

Built on a power-efficient 6nm process, these platforms feature octa-core CPUs with a combination of Arm Cortex-A78 and Cortex-A55 processors. Their low-power design ensures suitability for mobile devices requiring fanless operation or battery-powered usage.

The Genio 720 and 520 also boast advanced multimedia features like 4K/5K ultrawide display support, dual ISP capabilities, and pre-integrated Wi-Fi 6/6E solutions, ideal for interactive applications such as smart retail displays and industrial HMI setups. Moreover, they offer flexible deployment options, compatible with Android, Yocto Linux, and Ubuntu.
