Google Photos adds new Cinematic photo effects to your images

Users of Google Photos will soon enjoy Cinematic photos, 3D-like effects that add depth and movement to your images. The new feature will be released to users over the next month.

To make this work, Google Photos uses machine learning to predict an image’s depth to produce a 3D representation of the scene. It is then animated using a virtual camera to create a smooth panning effect. You can check out the demo below to see what I mean.

Cinematic photos are automatically generated which you’ll see on your recent highlights portion at the top of the photo grid when one is ready. Make sure your Google Photos app is updated to enjoy the new feature.

Aside from the Cinematic photos, Google Photos also adds updated collage designs and new themes for Memories. In these refreshed collages, users will see richer, artistically designed layouts populated and stylized using AI. While in Memories, the app will find new themes in which to group your photos.

The new feature comes in time for the holiday season, giving users a different way to relive important moments and memories.
