Ugreen USB-C Triple Display Docking Station (12-in-1) review: A versatile and powerful hub for your laptop

It is a versatile and powerful hub that can enhance your laptop’s connectivity and functionality.

If you are looking for a way to expand the connectivity and functionality of your laptop, check out the Ugreen USB C Triple Display Docking Station (12-in-1).

This device is a multifunctional hub that allows you to connect up to three external monitors, as well as various peripherals and accessories, to your laptop via a single USB-C cable. It also supports up to 100W power delivery, 10Gbps data transfer, and 8K video output.

In this review, we will take a closer look at this docking station and see if it’s for you. Let’s go.

Design

The Ugreen USB C Triple Display Docking Station has a sleek and sturdy design, with a silver aluminum alloy casing and a black plastic base. It measures 6.9 x 4.6 x 3.2 inches and weighs 1.65 pounds, making it relatively compact and portable, perfect for those who are building a minimalist desk.

It has a power button up top and a total of 12 ports on the front and back sides, which are:

  • 2 x HDMI ports (HDMI 1 supports up to 4K@60Hz, HDMI 2 supports up to 8K@30Hz)
  • 1 x DisplayPort (supports up to 4K@60Hz)
  • 1 x USB-C port (supports up to 10Gbps data transfer and 100W power delivery)
  • 1 x USB-C port (in from laptop)
  • 3 x USB-A ports (the one in front supports up to 10Gbps data transfer, the two at the back support up to 5Gbps data transfer)
  • 1 x Gigabit Ethernet port
  • 1 x SD card slot
  • 1 x TF card slot
  • 1 x 3.5mm audio jack

The docking station comes with a high-quality Ugreen USB-C cable (about 3 feet long) and a user manual. However, it does not include a power adapter.

If you want to use the charging function, you will need to connect either your laptop’s charger or another compatible one. Ugreen recommends using a 100W charger, such as the 100W Ugreen GaN Charger, which we used for this review.

Performance

The Ugreen USB C Triple Display Docking Station delivers impressive performance in terms of video output, data transfer, and power delivery. It supports triple display mode for Windows laptops and dual display mode for Mac laptops, allowing you to extend or mirror your laptop screen to up to three external monitors simultaneously.

The video quality is crisp and clear, with support for up to 8K resolution on one monitor or up to 4K resolution on two monitors. You can also adjust the display settings according to your preferences and needs.

According to Ugreen, you need to install the DisplayLink software to ensure the display and RJ45 functionality works properly. During the review, however, it worked straight out of the box, connected to an ASUS Zenbook 14 Flip OLED (UP3404). If you find that some of the ports are not working properly, we recommend that you install the software.

The docking station offers high-speed data transfer and charging for your devices. The USB-C port and one of the USB-A ports support up to 10Gbps data transfer, which is twice as fast as the standard USB 3.0 speed. You can use these ports to connect external hard drives, flash drives, or other devices that require high bandwidth.

The other two USB-A ports support up to 5Gbps data transfer and fast charging, which can charge your smartphone or tablet up to four times faster than normal USB ports. The SD and TF card slots can read and write data from memory cards up to 2TB in capacity.

As mentioned, it is rated for up to a 100W PD charger via a USB-C port, which can charge your laptop and provide power for the docking station itself. The actual charging speed may vary depending on your laptop’s model and battery capacity. I tested it using my own laptop’s 65W USB-C charger. However, it is not enough to provide power to both the laptop and the ports. Using the 100W Ugreen GaN Charger worked great, meaning you will need a higher-wattage power adapter if you want to use all the ports at the same time, although the docking station can work without it with just a USB-C connection.

In use, the Ugreen USB C Triple Display Docking Station (12-in-1) makes adding peripherals much faster and easier. My laptop is quickly converted into a workstation, connecting to a monitor, ethernet cable, mouse, keyboard, speakers, and charger with just one cable. It does get a little warm, but nothing alarming.

Verdict

The Ugreen USB C Triple Display Docking Station (12-in-1) is a versatile and powerful hub that can enhance your laptop’s connectivity and functionality. It offers multiple ports for video output, data transfer, power delivery, network connection, and audio output, making it suitable for various scenarios such as work, gaming, entertainment, or education. It has a sleek and sturdy design that matches well with most laptops, and it is easy to set up and use.

The only drawbacks of this docking station are that it does not come with a power adapter and that it may not be compatible with some laptops or monitors. You will need to check the specifications of your devices before buying this docking station to ensure compatibility and optimal performance.

Overall, we recommend the Ugreen USB C Triple Display Docking Station (12-in-1) for anyone who wants to expand their laptop’s capabilities with a single device. In the Philippines, it is available on Ugreen’s official Shopee page for ₱14,999.
