First look at the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

Samsung launched the Galaxy S24 Ultra, alongside the Galaxy S23 and the Galaxy S24+. It is the most premium and powerful model in the series. The premium flagship is as big and as bold as its predecessor, featuring a 6.8-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, a titanium frame, and a quad camera setup.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is as large as ever, but it has a slightly different design from the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The display is now flat, giving it a more sleek and modern look. It also allows users to maximize the screen when using the S Pen. In last year’s model, the curved screen limits the S Pen when writing near the edges.

The phone also has sharper corners and a titanium frame, which is stronger and lighter than aluminum. It weighs slightly less than the Galaxy S23 Ultra, but it still feels comfortable in the hand. I realized the sharp corners, though, poke my hand when the edges rest on my palm.

The display has a 120Hz refresh rate, a max brightness of 2600 nits, and Gorilla Armor protection. According to Samsung, Corning’s new Gorilla Armor not only enhances the durability of the Galaxy S24 Ultra but also improves the display readability while reducing screen glare. As a result, the screen is as stunning and immersive as ever, with vibrant colors and crystal clarity.

The phone also has a quad camera setup with the same layout as last year’s Ultra but replaces the 10MP telephoto with 10x optical zoom with a beefier 50MP telephoto camera but with a 5x optical zoom. The other cameras are retained, with a 200MP main camera with OIS, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and OIS. The front camera is also the same 12MP sensor underneath a tiny hole punch cutout at the top center of the screen.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Series

Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy chipset, which is far more popular with fans than the Exynos 2400 chip of the Galaxy S24 and 24+.

It also has a 5000mAh battery with 45W fast charging, wireless charging, and Wireless PowerShare. Additionally, the new Galaxy S24 Ultra now supports Wi-Fi 7. It also has Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity and Samsung Knox, along with mainstay features like the S Pen, an in-display fingerprint scanner, dual speakers, and an IP68 certification.

The Galaxy S24 Series also saw a big boost in sustainability. Recycled steel and Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) were used in some parts of its components. The Galaxy S24 Ultra takes it a step further by incorporating at least 40% recycled steel in its speakers and a minimum of 10% pre-consumer recycled TPU in the side and volume keys. Even the packaging gets an eco-friendly makeover, constructed entirely from recycled paper material.

The smartphone runs on One UI 6.1, based on Android 14. One of the highlights of the Galaxy S24 Ultra is its AI features, which include Circle to Search with Google, Note Assist in Samsung Notes, Interpreter, and more. These features work particularly well with the S Pen and the large display, which, in my opinion, makes the phone smarter and more helpful.

Aside from the AI features, Samsung also dropped a huge announcement, promising seven years of updates for the series.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is a beast of a phone, with a big, bold, and beautiful design, powerful performance, and a host of AI features. It is available in four colors: Titanium Gray, Titanium Black, Titanium Violet, and Titanium Yellow.
