A bill filed by Las PiƱas Representative Camille Villar seeks to extend the validity period for motor vehicle registrations in the Philippines.
House Bill 10696, dubbed the Extended Motor Vehicle Registration Act of 2024, proposes to extend the validity of certificates of registration for brand-new cars from three to five years.
The bill’s explanatory note cites why the legislation is needed — the loss of time and resources motorists face when visiting LTO centers yearly.
According to the bill, vehicles aged five to seven years would be eligible for a three-year renewal, while those between eight and nine years would receive a two-year extension. Vehicles ten years and older would require annual renewals.
Motorcycles aged three to seven years would follow a two-year renewal cycle, while eight years and above require annual renewals. New motorcycles would see an extended validity of three years, compared to the current one year.
For the bill to become law, it would require approval by both houses of Congress and subsequent signing by the President.
