LTO delays e-bike, e-trike ban on major roads to January 2026

The date was moved amid public complaints and concerns over the rollout.

We previously reported that the Land Transportation Office (LTO) would begin impounding e-bikes and e-trikes on national highways starting December 1, 2025. The agency has now postponed the enforcement to January 2, 2026.

LTO chief Markus Lacanilao confirmed the change after public complaints and concerns over the rollout. Instead of immediate confiscation, enforcers will spend December conducting an information drive.

Riders will be informed about where light electric vehicles (LEVs) such as e-bikes and e-trikes are permitted and where they are restricted.

The updated guidelines are expected to provide clearer rules for LEVs. Officials explained that the ban came about due to the rise in accidents involving e-bikes and e-trikes on major roads.

The LTO emphasized that the measure is meant to improve road safety, not to inconvenience the public.

By January 2, strict enforcement will begin, including impounding violators found on restricted highways.
