The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) is intensifying efforts to catch motorists who hide their license plates to avoid detection. This enforcement will focus on roads not covered by the No-Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP) to strengthen compliance with traffic rules.
Since NCAP was reinstated on May 26, authorities have recorded over 5,000 violations along major roads like EDSA and C5. The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is also pursuing 50 motorists caught hiding their plates, a practice often used to hide from CCTV cameras to avoid penalties or criminal investigations.
Under Republic Act 11235 or the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act, violators face a ₱5,000 fine and up to two years of imprisonment. Authorities warn that hiding plates isn’t just a way to evade fines; it also makes vehicles harder to track in accidents or crimes.
To ensure strict enforcement, PNP-HPG has deployed 120 officers in Metro Manila, with 1,500 more nationwide.
