Free rides on the Love Bus as it returns in 2025, starting in Cebu and Davao

It will offer free rides during peak hours, weekends, and holidays.

The iconic Love Bus is making a comeback in 2025, starting in Cebu and Davao. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) confirmed that the buses will hit the roads later this year.

The Love Bus was first introduced in the 1970s as the country’s first air-conditioned public bus. It became popular for its comfort and distinct blue-and-white design. DOTr will keep the original look but add the “Bagong Pilipinas” logo to reflect the current administration’s branding.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said the buses will be free to ride during peak hours of 6 to 9 a.m. and 5 to 8 p.m., and on weekends and holidays. The buses will run on busy commuter routes to help ease daily travel.

Instead of buying new vehicles, the agency plans to convert existing buses into Love Buses. The goal is to offer a more comfortable and accessible ride without adding more traffic.

Dizon adds that the program will expand to other regions after the initial launch. DOTr is now working with local governments and transport groups to prepare for the rollout.

The Love Bus revival is part of a broader plan to improve public transport across the country.
