Google Photos adds Nano Banana for smarter edits and creative tools

Nano Banana enables natural language edits, creative restyling, and smarter photo search.

Google Photos now includes Nano Banana, a new AI model that makes editing and searching photos easier and more flexible. The update is available to Android users in the US.

Nano Banana powers the “Help me edit” feature, which lets users ask for changes using plain language. You can type or say things like “remove sunglasses” or “make her smile,” and the app will adjust the photo using similar images from your gallery. It works by recognizing faces you’ve grouped in your library.

The update also adds new creative tools. Users can restyle photos into formats like mosaics, Renaissance portraits, or storybook pages. A new “Create with AI” tab offers templates for things like holiday cards or professional headshots. Personalized templates based on your photo history are coming soon.

Search gets an upgrade as well. Ask Photos, Google’s natural language search tool, is now available in over 100 countries and 17 new languages.

A new “Ask” button lets you interact with individual photos, request edits, find related images, or ask questions about what’s in the picture.
