PLDT and Smart hold workshop for families of children with disabilities

The workshop aimed to guide parents and caregivers on online safety for children with disabilities.

PLDT and Smart rolled out a #BeCyberSmart workshop in Quezon City to help parents and caregivers of children with disabilities stay safe online.

The session, organized with the Kabahagi Parent Advocates Organization (KPAO), focused on simple steps families can take to protect themselves in the digital space.

Parents who joined the workshop learned how to spot risks like online exploitation and abuse.

Smart’s Senior Manager for Digital Communications, Elijah Mendoza, reminded families that online safety often comes down to everyday habits. He pointed out the value of avoiding oversharing, using strong passwords, and staying alert against scams. “Being CyberSmart means being proactive in protecting our families,” he said.

PLDT and Smart also shared updates on their Child Protection Platform. In the first ten months of 2025, the system blocked more than 700,000 attempts to access harmful child content. By October, it had blacklisted over two million links and domains.

The workshop didn’t just cover online risks. Psychologist Riyan Portuguez spoke about the emotional challenges faced by families of children with disabilities. He stressed that self-care is important for caregivers to manage stress and stay present for their loved ones.
