PLDT, Smart ready to block Roblox if NTC orders

PLDT and Smart have confirmed they are ready to follow any directive from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to block access to Roblox in the Philippines. The move comes after government agencies raised concerns about child safety on the platform.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), NTC, and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) recently met with telcos to discuss risks linked to Roblox. Parents, educators, and advocacy groups have warned that predators use the game’s chat features to groom minors and expose them to harmful content.

Authorities gave Roblox Corporation until April 10, 2026, to respond to these concerns. If safeguards are found lacking, the NTC may order a nationwide block. PLDT and Smart said they will comply immediately if instructed.

Globe Telecom said that it is also ready to support government agencies to block the gaming platform Roblox, if required.

The issue shows how telcos are being asked to play a bigger role in online child safety. If Roblox fails to meet government standards, Filipino gamers may lose access to the platform.
