Roblox has rolled out new age-based accounts and expanded parental controls to improve safety for younger players. The update is for users under 16 and adds account categories that adjust access and communication features based on age.
Children aged 5 to 8 will be placed under Roblox Kids, where they can only play titles rated Minimal or Mild. Communication is disabled by default.
Users aged 9 to 15 will move to Roblox Select, which allows access to games rated up to Moderate while keeping standard chat settings. At 16, accounts automatically move to the standard Roblox experience.
The update builds on Roblox’s current system of facial age verification for chat access. It combines ratings, moderation, and parental tools into a unified framework. Developers must meet verification standards, while games undergo continuous evaluation to ensure compliance.
Parents now have more granular controls. They can block or approve specific games, manage chat settings until age 15, and set limits on screen time and spending. Roblox also plans to integrate IARC ratings such as ESRB and PEGI, making standards clearer across regions.

In the Philippines, Roblox was recently reprieved from a potential ban after agreeing to the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center’s (CICC) demands to strengthen protections for minors. This includes future integration to the PhilSys national ID for account security and age checks.
For local concerns related to Roblox, the CICC hotline 1326 is now open to calls.
