Roblox has shut down Connect video chat service

Roblox has shut down its video chat service, Roblox Connect. The feature launched in 2023 and let players call each other using avatars that copied real-life movements.

Roblox says most users aged 13 and up now use Party Voice Chat instead. This option gives private calls with verified Trusted Friends, making Connect less useful.

Connect was built to make communication more immersive. Players could talk while their avatars interacted in shared spaces.

Developers even had access to APIs to build custom experiences. But with fewer people using it, Roblox decided to end the service. The source code, once open for copying, has also been removed.

For players, this means video chat is no longer part of Roblox. Voice chat will remain the main way to connect with friends in-game. Roblox says this better matches how its community communicates today.

Future updates are expected to expand social tools while keeping them easy and secure.
