Globe and BPI test Silent Network Authentication, cutting OTPs for safer online banking

The system can verify users without relying on one-time passwords.

Globe and BPI are trying out a new way to secure online transactions. The two recently completed a proof of concept for Silent Network Authentication (SNA), a system that verifies users without relying on one-time passwords.

Instead of sending codes through SMS, SNA checks identity directly at the network level. This cuts the risk of scams that target OTPs and makes the process faster and easier for users. No extra steps, no waiting for text messages.

In the test, BPI’s app connected with Globe’s Network Exposure Platform to confirm identities in real time. The setup follows GSMA and CAMARA standards, giving it support from global telecom and banking groups.

Both companies say the project shows their push for safer and simpler digital banking. For BPI customers, it means stronger protection when making payments or transfers. For Globe, it highlights how network intelligence can be used to fight fraud.

Globe and BPI are also looking at how SNA can be applied to other banks and even e-commerce platforms.
