Google and PLDT have teamed up to deploy air laser technology in the Philippines, bringing high-speed internet to Talim Island in Rizal. The system beams data using light across long distances, delivering fiber-like speeds without the need for submarine cables.
Talim Island has long struggled with connectivity due to its location on Laguna de Bay. With air lasers, residents now have access to reliable internet that supports education, governance, and community services.
PLDT says the technology offers faster and lower-cost deployment compared to traditional infrastructure. It also provides resilient backup links for areas prone to outages.
The initiative is part of PLDT’s broader mission to bridge the digital divide and connect underserved communities to digital opportunities.
