Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram, has bought Moltbook, a social media platform made for AI bots. The Moltbook team will now join Meta’s Superintelligence Labs to work on new ways AI agents can help people and businesses.
Moltbook started in January as a test project. It allowed AI programs to chat, share posts, and even gossip about their human owners.
While it quickly gained attention, experts raised concerns about security and ethics. Some warned that connecting Moltbook to everyday devices could be risky if AI agents act in ways people don’t expect.
The platform was built using OpenClaw, an open-source tool that lets AI act like digital assistants. With OpenClaw linked to Moltbook, users could watch bots interact with each other. This showed how AI agents might work together, but regulators in China and cybersecurity specialists flagged possible dangers.
