Nintendo Switch 2 digital games will cost less than physical copies

Nintendo has announced its new pricing policy for Switch 2 games in the United States. According to a post on its website, starting May 2026, digital versions of Nintendo‑published titles will be priced differently from their physical counterparts. The first game to follow this model is Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

The company later clarified to IGN that physical game prices are not going up. Instead, digital editions will be priced lower. This means boxed copies, which include packaging and logistics costs, will stay at a higher price point.

The change applies only to new Switch 2 titles published by Nintendo. Existing games such as Mario Kart World will keep their current pricing. Upcoming releases like Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave and Splatoon Raiders are also expected to follow the new pricing structure.

At this time, Nintendo has not confirmed if the same adjustment will apply in other countries or regions. For now, the policy is limited to the U.S. market.

What do you think of this new pricing policy? Do you prefer physical editions (for collecting and reselling) or digital games for convenience?
