Meta is changing how it uses your data. Starting next month, the company will pull activity from other websites and apps that you already use and visit to personalize your Facebook feed and its AI chatbot.
The update simplifies privacy settings. Instead of two options, only “Activity from other businesses” will remain. Turning it off stops personalization, but Meta will still collect the data. That information can still be used to train Meta AI, even if you opt out.
Meta says it isn’t gathering new types of data. It will use information that businesses already share (like purchases or game activities). The move could also open the door for ads inside AI chats, where external activity might be used to suggest sponsored products or services.
The rollout begins in the US and several other countries. Users will see updated controls in their settings once the change takes effect.
