Nintendo has confirmed that Switch 1 sales will continue outside of Europe. The company is preparing to end distribution in the region by early 2027. The move comes after new EU laws requiring devices to have user-replaceable batteries.
In Europe, the entire Switch lineup will be pulled from shelves to comply with the directive. The upcoming Switch 2 redesign will meet these rules, with replaceable batteries, a slightly heavier build, and lower battery capacity compared to the current model.
The original Switch is turning 10 years old next year. It remains a strong seller worldwide. As of March 31, 2026, it has shipped 155.92 million units, putting it close to Sony’s PlayStation 2 record of 160 million units.

Nintendo clarified that sales will continue in markets like North America and Japan, ensuring players outside Europe can still buy the Switch 1 while the company transitions its lineup.
