PLDT, Globe, and Converge are teaming up to build a ₱31‑billion nationwide undersea fiber‑optic network. The plan is now with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and aims to connect Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao with faster and more reliable internet.
The project will run cables from Batanes down to Palawan, with links to other regions. Once approved, rollout is expected to finish in two years. The system will also carry acoustic sensors that can detect seismic activity, adding support for disaster response and national defense.
This network will work alongside the government’s National Fiber Backbone, which targets better speeds and wider access. Around 70 million Filipinos are expected to benefit once the system goes live.
The domestic cable will also link to international submarine systems. PLDT, Globe, and Converge are already part of regional projects like Candle, Apricot, Bifrost, and SEA‑H2X, giving the Philippines global connections.

If approved, the ₱31‑billion investment will boost local internet connectivity, improve disaster readiness, and strengthen the country’s digital infrastructure.
