Discord is back online in the Philippines after the government lifted its ban. The platform agreed to new safety measures and closer cooperation with local authorities.
DICT Secretary Henry Aguda confirmed that Discord acknowledged issues tied to violent extremism, grooming, and youth radicalization. The company committed to strengthening protections and monitoring harmful activity.
“We respect freedom of expression, but these rights must never become a shield for predators and groomers. If you operate in the Philippines, Filipino children are your responsibility too. Do not mistake distance for immunity. We welcome innovation, but access comes with a responsibility,” said Aguda.
The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center said Discord will provide a “green lane” for tracking threat actors, similar to Reddit’s arrangement. The platform also pledged to cooperate on child safety initiatives.
Officials are also expecting Discord to open a satellite office in the Philippines. This move aims to improve oversight and speed up responses to local concerns.
CICC Executive Director Renato Paraiso apologized for the disruption caused by the ban. He assured users that efforts are underway to fully restore access across networks.

The ban was originally imposed after Discord was linked to extremist communities and recent school shootings in Tacloban City, Zamboanga City, and South Cotabato.
