Apple says it will push a software update to fix the iPhone 18 Pro rebooting bug. The issue happens when Face ID fails, freezing the phone before it restarts.
The bug comes from the new under‑display Face ID sensor, which was redesigned to shrink the Dynamic Island. When Face ID fails in apps that require authentication, the phone crashes and shows panic logs in analytics.
According to 9to5Mac, Apple has confirmed the reboot bug and promised a fix. However, not all iPhone 18 Pro units are affected. Apple later said it’s a software problem and will be patched in the next update.
The reboot bug does not trigger from the lock screen. It only happens during app authentication, like when unlocking Passwords or Safari private tabs. Apple support teams first advised some users to replace their phones, but later confirmed that a software fix is enough.
Apple also released watchOS 27.0.1 to address random restart problems on Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4.

The iOS 27 update is expected this week. If you own an iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max, installing the patch should stop the reboot bug and stabilize Face ID performance.
