Asus just unveiled a unique product at the Computex event in Taiwan. Capitalizing on the popularity of smartphones and tablets, Asus came up with the Padfone.
The Padfone is composed of two devices: a smartphone that can be used as a standalone phone, and a tablet dock which can house the phone and operates as a normal tablet device when the phone is inserted.
The phone slot resides at the back of the tablet dock and if you want to use the tablet instead of the phone, you insert the phone, close the lid, and you now have a fully functioning tablet. Pretty neat huh? What the Padfone does really is to let you choose the screen size of your device. You use the phone if you want portability and you use the tablet if you want a bigger screen. And with the Padfone you don’t need to transfer files and cards from your phone to your tablet since the two devices share them. With the phone docked, it can recharge from the tablet’s larger battery and the tablet can also make use of the smartphone’s 3G internet connection.
Price and availability are still unknown. In the meantime, enjoy these press photos of the Padfone.
