Nintendo is bringing mobile games to smartphones

Nintedo has partnered with Japanese mobile gaming company DeNA to make smartphone games featuring Nintendo’s extensive list of game characters. From a fan of the Super Mario Brothers, Castlevania and the Legend of Zelda franchises, I am excited with the news.

There is a caveat, of course. The Japanese gaming company/legend (yeah, I think they can be classified as such) will only bring in new and original games developed specifically for smart devices. That means there won’t be any porting of the old popular games we know and love.

“To ensure the quality of game experience that consumers expect from this alliance of Nintendo and DeNA, only new original games optimized for smart device functionality will be created, rather than porting games created specifically for the WiiU home console or the Nintendo 3DS portable system,” said a statement from DeNA.

This is exciting news for both gamers and non-gamers alike. Nintendo was floundering for awhile because of it’s resistance in joining the mobile revolution. I’m glad they changed their mind.
