Roblox is enhancing its parental controls in response to recent scrutiny. The popular online gaming platform has announced a series of changes aimed at protecting younger users.
Starting in November, parents will be required to grant permission for their children under 13 to access certain chat features. Additionally, parental consent will be necessary for children under 9 to play games with moderate violence or crude humor.
To further strengthen parental oversight, Roblox is introducing a new feature that allows parents to link their accounts to their children’s. This will enable parents to monitor their child’s activity, including daily screen time and friend lists. Parents will also be able to access and modify their child’s parental settings directly from their linked account.
Moreover, Roblox will no longer send account-related information, such as spending details, to parents’ email addresses. Instead, this information will be accessible through the linked parental account.
Roblox also made adjustments to its content labeling system, moving away from age-based classifications to more descriptive labels. This change is designed to provide parents with greater transparency and flexibility in choosing appropriate content for their children.
All these come in the wake of growing concerns about underage access and potential harm to young users. Recent investigations have highlighted issues such as predatory behavior and exposure to gambling.
