Deep down, we all knew it, but now the numbers are here to prove it: the iPhone reigns supreme in the smartphone world. According to the latest report from Counterpoint Research, the iPhone 15 holds the title of the top-selling smartphone in the world in 2024.
It is followed closely by the iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro, occupying the second and third spots, respectively. The dominance doesn’t stop there. In total, six iPhone models have made it into the top 10 list. The iPhone 16 Pro Max lands in fifth place, while the iPhone 14 and iPhone 16 Pro hold the eighth and ninth spots.

Looking back, the trend isn’t new. In 2023, the iPhone 14 led the pack, with other iPhone models comfortably sitting in the second to seventh positions.
Samsung was the only other brand with multiple models in the top 10. The Galaxy A15 5G is the fourth best-selling smartphone of 2024. Following closely are the Galaxy A15 4G, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, and the Galaxy A05, which secure the sixth, seventh, and tenth places respectively.
The US and China accounted for nearly half of the iPhone 15’s global sales. While the Pro models make up more than half of all iPhone sales annually. Apple also entered India’s top five smartphone brands for the first time in Q4 2024.
Meanwhile, over half of Galaxy S24 series sales came from the US and Western Europe. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is the first Galaxy S series smartphone to make it into the annual top 10 list since 2018, thanks in part to being the first smartphone equipped with GenAI capabilities.
