Nintendo has officially announced the Nintendo Switch 2, set to launch on June 5, 2025. The company finally revealed some key features, including significant hardware upgrades while keeping the hybrid handheld gaming experience that made its predecessor a fan favorite.

Bigger Screen, Improved Joy-Con 2 controllers
The Nintendo Switch 2 features a 7.9-inch LCD display with 1080p resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate for supported games. The console has two USB-C ports for charging and connecting supported accessories. It also comes with a new dock, which supports 4K resolution, HDR, and VRR.

The upgraded Joy-Con 2 controllers now attach magnetically and introduce a new C button, which activates GameChat for voice and video communication during online multiplayer mode, along with the new Nintendo Switch 2 Camera.
Nintendo has improved the Joy-Con 2 controllers’ durability and responsiveness while maintaining their signature motion controls. It also has bigger SL/SR buttons, larger control sticks, and adds a new mouse mode for compatible games.

More Power, Storage, and New Features
The Nintendo Switch 2 offers faster performance and reduced loading times. The internal storage has been upgraded to 256GB, eight times more than the original model. The console is also compatible with microSD Express cards, though older microSD cards will no longer be compatible.

The Switch 2 game cards also received upgrades. They are now colored red with faster data reading speeds.
Among the console’s standout features is GameShare, which lets players share select digital games with friends for a limited time. GameChat, supported by the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera, enhances communication by allowing players to appear in video chats during gameplay.

Battery life is listed at 2 to 6.5 hours, and will depend on the games played.
