A teaser was released, confirming that the upcoming Xiaomi 17 Pro will feature a secondary screen on the back. This follows a similar reveal for the 17 Pro Max. A teaser video posted on Weibo shows both phones with a rear display built into the camera island.

According to the post, the secondary screen will be called “Magic Back Screen,” and can show watch faces, notifications, and act as a camera viewfinder. Xiaomi has not shared details about the screen’s size or resolution. The short video only shows a few sample uses.
This isn’t the first time Xiaomi has added a rear display to a phone. The 2021 Mi 11 Ultra had a small 1.1-inch AMOLED screen on the back. That feature was mostly used for checking notifications and taking selfies with the rear camera.
The Xiaomi 17 series is expected to launch on September 19. The company is skipping the 16 series entirely to line up and better compete against Apple’s latest iPhone 17.

The series includes the Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Ultra. The handsets are expected to run on Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, with the top model featuring a massive 7500mAh battery and improvements to the camera across all devices.
That’s all for the rear display. Until Xiaomi shares more details, it’s unclear how useful it will be. Stay tuned for more details.
