Samsung has begun rolling out One UI 8.0 to the Galaxy S21 FE. This is the device’s final major software upgrade. Based on Android 16, the update, first available in Thailand and Vietnam, arrives with firmware version G990EXXUIHYJ2 and includes the September 2025 security patch, and weighs over 2GB.
The Galaxy S21 FE launched in January 2022 as a more affordable entry in the S21 series. It featured a 6.4-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, powered by either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 or Exynos 2100 chipset, depending on the market. The phone came with a 12MP main camera and a 4,500mAh battery supporting fast and wireless charging.
With One UI 8.0, Samsung introduces refreshed designs for core apps like Samsung Internet, Quick Share, and Weather. The Modes and Routines app gains expanded automation options, while users get more customization controls for the Quick Panel and lock screen.
This update fulfills Samsung’s promise of four major upgrades for the Galaxy S21 FE, which shipped with Android 12 and later received Android 13, 14, and 15. Android 17 will not be supported.
